At the end of each school year, CASCWA's number one priority is to recognize graduating seniors who have overcome adversity and will be continuing with their education in the fall. Student scholarships are given out each year by all four CASCWA sections. Please visit each section's information below to learn more about the rich history of these scholarship programs. Each year, over $10,000 is given out statewide to students who have overcome adversity to graduate from high school and to go on to continue with their education. |

BAY SECTION SCHOLARSHIP AWARDS 2023-2024
Each year Bay Section CASCWA, California Association of Supervisors of Child Welfare and Attendance, awards $500.00 scholarships to graduating high school seniors who have overcome unique challenges and difficulties. The students we want to recognize and honor are those who may have had to overcome barriers to success early on due to personal or family challenges, excessive absence or discipline concerns.

A complete application packet for this scholarship award shall include:
● Google Application Form (link above)
● A personal letter/statement (approximately 1 page, typed) which describes the obstacles you have faced, your progress in spite of difficulties and your plans for further education or training; uploaded in the Google form.
● One letter of recommendation, uploaded in the Google form.
● Complete transcript – freshman through first semester of senior year, uploaded in the Google form.
Deadline: Applications must be received by Friday, March 15, 2024
Award recipients will need to provide verification of enrollment in college or vocational school prior to receiving the scholarship.

CASCWA DELTA SIERRA SECTION SCHOLARSHIP INFORMATION |

The annual Richard C. Davis scholarship was established by the Delta Sierra Section of the California Association of Supervisors Child Welfare and Attendance to recognize the contributions Rich C. Davis has made to the association and for the enduring services he has rendered to school age students. Up to six, $1000 scholarships will be awarded to a Continuation or Alternative school graduate who is planning to continue their education in college or a vocational training school. The scholarship award was designed to recognize the resiliency of a student who has overcome personal obstacles to graduate from high school in one of the Delta Sierra Section’s regions: Alpine, Amador, Butte, Calaveras, Colusa, Del Norte, El Dorado, Glenn, Lassen, Modoc, Nevada, Placer, Plumas, Sacramento, Shasta, Sierra, Siskiyou, Sutter, Tehama, Trinity, Yolo or Yuba Counties. A continuation or alternative school student is defined as eighteen (18) years old or younger, who returns to school and graduates from high school, continuation school, a regional occupational program (ROP), community school or juvenile court school. Delta Sierra section proudly presents Brea Davis; she is a Richard C. Davis Scholarship recipient for 2021! Ms. Davis is a graduate of Rio Cazadero High School in Sacramento, CA. She plans to enroll at Consumnes River College in the fall to earn a degree in Business. Her ultimate goal is to run her own barbershop in the Sacramento area. Congratulations Brea!

It was on May 11, 2023, at the CASCWA State Conference, that the San Joaquin Section exceeded $250,000 in Anthony Brucia Success Awards! CASCWA President, Kevin Torosian, announced the 2023 $1,000 awards to the large conference audience. The winners were presented their awards by CASCWA San Joaquin President, Sharma Uma and Success Award founder, Joe Brucia. Each winner gave a “thank-you” to the 600+ CASCWA members in attendance. All of this year’s winners are eligible to receive three more awards of $1,000 during the next three years should they remain enrolled in a school and in good standing. The high school winners were: Nevaeh Love Maldonado Curiel and Gracie Mae A. Villanueva, both of Kings River High School, Sanger, California. Also wining was Antonio Ruiz-Lazcano of Orestimba High School, Newman, California. The multitude of $1,000 continuing education students will receive their scholarships at a later date. ANTHONY BRUCIA SUCCESS AWARDS PROGRAM The Anthony Brucia Success Awards are the heart of the San Joaquin section of CASCWA. They are named after a high school graduate who made a positive change to find success. CASCWA’s San Joaquin section is made up of Central California school professionals who work with students in areas of attendance, truancy or behavior matters. By providing cash awards and scholarships, we recognize those students who, through hard work and support, made the commitment and succeeded in improving their character. Simply put, they “turned it around.” We urge school staff in comprehensive, alternative or charter schools to help identify and assist those students who are applying for these unique grants. For the students who win this award, it represents a belief in them, recognition of their achievements, and commitment to their future. The application and additional, highly useful application information can be found on the ANTHONY BRUCIA SUCCESS AWARDS page. Each recipient receives a $1,000 cash grant, and is eligible to receive an additional $1,000/year for the next three years if they remain enrolled in a school in good standing. The “Anthony Brucia Success Awards” are funded by the workshops put on by the San Joaquin Section of CASCWA and through donations to the Anthony Brucia Success Awards Foundation. Thanks to everyone in the San Joaquin section that participated in the evaluation of applications, and special thanks to Sergio Mendoza, Scholarship Committee Co-Chair and Joe Brucia, who created this scholarship to honor the memory of his son Anthony and was present at the luncheon to present the awards.. The Lillie Wilson Scholarship was established by CASCWA Southern Section in recognition of Lillie Wilson’s many years of service to CASCWA and to Southern California youth. Several $1,000 scholarships will be awarded to graduating seniors that have overcome adversity with the support of a CASCWA member and plan to continue their education via college or career training. APPLICATION: 1. Student Essay - maximum two page, double spaced 12 point font including:
2. Media Release Form- Signed by parent/guardian of student 3. CASCWA Member Nomination Statement - one page describing the student’s involvement with Child Welfare & Attendance and how the student overcame adversity. 4. CASCWA Member must complete the 2024 Lillie Wilson Scholarship Nomination Form and upload the following:

Students chosen to receive the scholarship will be recognized at the student’s Senior Awards Night or other appropriate ceremony by the nominating CASCWA Member with a certificate and gift provided to you from the CASCWA Southern Section Board. 6.
